Recently, I found myself in a situation where I had to do something I really didn’t want to do. In the days leading up to this event, I prayed earnestly, asking God to provide a way for me to escape it. However, my prayers seemed unanswered.
As I drove to the destination, I held onto hope that there was still time for God to intervene, given that He is the God who rescues His people in the most unexpected ways. I believed He would come through for me. But as I sat in my vehicle, still waiting for a sign of His intervention, I came to the realization that there was no avoiding it.
Sometimes, God allows us to go through unfavourable circumstances—situations we would rather avoid. However, this is only because He knows all aspects of what you face. You only know what you know and your knowledge is limited. God, in His sovereignty, knows all and makes decisions based on a big-picture perspective, not our restricted human understanding.
As I entered the building that day I knew I had to be there. I had to do this and though it was difficult I knew this was exactly what I needed to help bring some closure to a rather painful situation.
As I prepared to carry out the task I originally did not want to, I felt a surge of energy come over me and an inner strength arise that I have become familiar with. I knew it was The Holy Spirit who came to empower me, providing wisdom and strength as I tackled this task.
When it was completed, I felt like a completely different person. I felt empowered and as bold as a lion. It felt like I could conquer the world. This experience was necessary for me, only I did not know, but God knew that I needed it.
So instead of answering my prayer of avoidance, He allowed it to happen and gave me the strength I needed to go through it.
Sometimes God does not take away our problems or those things that bring us fear, instead, He takes us through so we can know the strength we embody as His child. Sometimes He allows us to go through challenges so we can experience that His strength is made perfect in our weakness.
Whatever you may be facing today and may face throughout this month, God has already given you the strength to go through and overcome it. Remember that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.
Philippians 4:13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
